Color Schemes

At first, I never really noticed how important color schemes are when the specific scene wants to portray a feeling/vibe. The multiple colors can play different roles in scenes.

For a dark mood, you could use a limited amount of dark colors like brown, gray, and black, combined with vibrant splashes of red to highlight danger/violence.

If you're looking for a more modern, high-contrast style, you could use a combination of bright colors like blue. In our video, we are focusing more on the dark colors and the splashes of red. It is a perfect fit and the colors do a really good job of portraying the overall mood of our video.

Group Meeting 2/23

We met up with other students from other  groups in the class and we all took the time to explain our ideas and blog posts to each other. After seeing their blog posts and seeing their ideas and different ways that they approach and articulate their ideas, was very enlightening. I really want to sit down with my group outside of school and agree on our final plot, characters, and answer any questions that we have.

I got new ideas of where to film the two minute video. The video can go two ways. The first way is  a rich drug lord  vibe. A big house, pool, an overall expensive lifestyle representation. The second way is like a secret drug lord that doesn't show off his wealth. He keeps everything under the radar and never flashes his money, living a simple life style.

I really enjoyed this group meeting. Stay tuned for more!

Editing Softwares

I took a film class both 7th and 8th grade and in those classes I learned how to use Adobe Premiere Pro. Honestly, I think it’s very overrated in some cases. The whole process of downloading the pictures and putting them in order with constant issues because of the softwares layout. In our last project, we had to create a music video. I spent 4 hours editing our video on Adobe Premiere after watching videos on Youtube for tips and tricks. My partner Pablo spent 10 minutes editing the video on Cap Cut on his phone, and it came out better than mine. Because the software is free, I initially thought that it was going to be a bad editing software. I stand corrected

Both Adobe Premiere and Cap Cut are both popular video editing software packages. Cap Cut is amazing because it allows you to edit the basic things for free.

Adobe Premiere is a professional-level program, and is more expensive than Cap Cut. It offers more sophisticated tools for editing and effects, a wider range of media formats, and more precise audio and video control. It also has a large community of users, and offers a wide range of tutorials and support.

Cap Cut is a free and easy-to-use program, and is more suitable for beginners. It can be used to create simple videos quickly, and offers basic editing features like trimming and cropping. Sometimes, I feel like Adobe is obviously superior because of the more professional level program. But, I am not sitting on the fact that Cap Cut can also get the job done. I will have a discussion with my team when the time comes and we will figure out what editing software we’re going to end up using. Stay tuned!

Target Audience/ character planning

My group and I have come to an agreement to make the video about a cartel and its multiple issues. For the crime genre, the target audience is 16 and over. Our group wishes to follow this target audience because cartels is a heavy topic for some teenagers. After much discussion, we are also now talking about  what props and clothing are needed to make our future characters look legit.

Cartel leaders tend to dress in a variety of styles, depending on the context and culture of the cartel. Their outfits vary from suits to casual attire. Additionally, they may accessorize with flashy jewelry, designer sunglasses, and other items that signify their power and wealth. The picture I added below is a picture of Ovidio Guzman, son of El Chapo Guzman who is known as one of the biggest cartel leaders on the globe. As you can see, his outfit is pretty simple, but nice. My group and I want a mix of both expensive and simple/nice.

The other picture I added a character called Pacho Herrera from the show "Narcos" on Netflix. Pacho Herrera is one of the four leaders of the Cali Cartel, known as one of the most powerful cartels in world history. His outfit fits the "cartel leader" stereotype. The expensive watch, colorful buttoned down shirt, and overall look is what we want one of our characters to look like.

By next class, we'll have the idea of the plot line completed the character planning will be finished. Stay tuned!

Character Research

 2/16/23

After researching what characteristics cartel leaders have on https://www.thecipherbrief.com/column_article/the-structure-and-psychology-of-drug-cartels, the article also went into detail explaining how the cartel works and and what the structure looked like from a business point of view. My group and I want our two minute video to introduce different types of cartel leaders if my group decides to focus on this genre . One cartel leader is going to be a complete nut job that has no morale or human decency. The second cartel leader is going to be more organized, treating his illegal business like a fortune 500 company.

We want both cartel leaders to be portrayed as complex individuals in the video. We want our cartel leaders to be like "Tuco Salamanca" and " Gustavo Fring" from Breaking Bad. "Tuco" is a sloppy cartel leader that is blinded by his aggressiveness and severe drug usage. On the the other hand, Gustavo is more organized, barely leaving any trails and has a solid network for his cartel that he built from the ground up using his chain restaurant as a cover up. These characters can serve as the basis for our characters.

Planning out the character details and names is always hard. I am planning on having a group facetime call later today with my group in order to begin discussing character names, characteristics, and origin. Once we have come up with a basis, I will continue to inform my blog about any changes. Stay tuned!

Genre research #1

This whole portfolio project seems like a cool end of the year project. I have the freedom to do my work whenever I want as long as I turn in my work by the due date. For the last couple of days I have been talking with my group members and we were trying to brainstorm genre ideas for our two minute video and we came up with the idea of possibly creating a crime related video. Watching shows like Breaking Bad, Narcos, Narcos Mexico, and other drug related/ violent shows influenced our group to lean towards the crime genre.

Tomorrow (2/15/23), my group members and I will try and create a rough draft of the plot line, characters, and create a schedule in order to be organzined with the due dates. I am excited to begin.

Music Marketing Blog Post #2

This project is in the top 5 funniest projects I’ve ever done. The freedom of creating you’re own video is really cool. The whole brainstorming process was really funny with my group because we had a bunch of good ideas, but they were all literally impossible to film/do. My group and I always knew that we wanted our video to do something with our cars, but we genuinely had no idea what to film, how to film correctly, and if it would even work out in the end.

After I completed the storyboard at home when I was sick, I Facetimed my group and we got to the conclusion that the storyline was good and it was ready for filming. After a few days of normal procrastination, we began filming after school. I took the storyboard with me and my girlfriend helped us film the shots that we could not film because of our participation in the video. After 3 hours of laughter, we finished filming and parted ways.

After I got home I spent an hour trying to figure out how to do split screen on Adobe Premiere. I finished that and I finally began editing. The only annoying part about the whole editing process was downloading the individual clips and putting them in order. That took about an hour. After I completed that, I added a few transitions and made it look neat, and added the MP3-downloaded version of the song.

I exported the project to Youtube so it doesn’t lose quality, and it came out a little mediocre.

After talking with my group, Luis decided to try and edit it on an app on his phone. It came out better on his phone than it did when I edited the clips on Adobe Premiere, so we used his video. On the day that the project was due, we decided to sharpen a few of the clips and it ended up working out. On the days that we had time in class to work on the project, we all worked on the PowerPoint and searched for ideas on how to distribute the video.

I believe that this project was a sneak peek of what college life will be. You make your own schedule and choices and learn what works and what doesn’t in order to make the best project/assignment possible.
